Coastal-Georgetown AAUW announces science, math award winners
The Coastal-Georgetown Branch of the American Association of University Women announces the 2013 Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics honorees from high schools in Kent and Sussex counties.
Started in New Castle County by the Newark Branch and joined by Coastal-Georgetown in 2005, Delaware AAUW has honored more than 600 young women in 14 years. Each school is asked to nominate an 11th-grade female student who is proficient in science and/or mathematics.
The winners received a certificate, letter of congratulations and an inspirational book, "My Beloved World," the memoir of United States Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. Coastal-Georgetown AAUW encourages bright students to continue in STEM-related college studies and choose careers in science, technology, engineering or mathematics. AAUW promotes this mission through advocacy, education, research and philanthropy.
