Milton Garden Club potted plant sale May 23

May 20, 2009
The Milton Garden Club will sell a variety of potted plants from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, May 23. All funds will be used to continue to beautify the public gardens and planters in downtown Milton.

The garden club will sell perennial and annual plants as well as herbs as part of the Horseshoe Crab & Shorebird Festival in downtown Milton. The garden club’s stand will be in the parking lot of Wilmington Trust, located at 107 Front St. This admission-free event is rain or shine.

“The Milton Garden Club has one goal, and that is to make Milton beautiful with flowers. We are excited to get the chance to sell plants and raise money for this cause,” fundraiser Co-chairwoman Kathryn Greig said. “But this also gives us a way to talk to people about their gardens and hopefully inspire a person or two to start their own or join the club!”

Plant prices range from $1 to $12. Varieties include black-eyed Susan, daylily, mint, forsythia, hosta, liriope, bee bomb, creeping jenny, tall phlox, variegated vinca vine and nandina. The club also will sell several container pots that include up to seven different plants.

On Saturday, the garden club also will be selling tickets to the 10th Annual Milton Garden Tour. The tour will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, July 11. This summer highlight is a self-guided tour of local gardens and homes. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 that day. Advance tickets can also be purchased at Antiques in Milton, which is open seven days per week and located at 109 Union St.

The nonprofit Milton Garden Club was established in 1998 to, as its motto says, “Make Milton bloom with flowers!” The group, which was a recipient of the Pennsylvania Horticulture Society Community Greening Award, does four town-wide plantings per year.
