BilCom Group becomes Hook Translations
After 10 years of providing Spanish-language translations to state and national clients, Delaware’s homegrown translation agency has a new name, Hook Translations.
Founded in 2003 as the BilCom Group by Patricia V. Rivera, a bilingual marketing communications professional, the Lewes-based business has provided English-to-Spanish translation services to clients ranging from Perdue Farms, the Nemours Foundation, Beebe Medical Center and Delaware Technical Community College in Delaware to AAA of Arizona, the Texas Hispanic HealthCare Initiative and the Amputee Coalition of America.
“Our new name clearly describes our mission - to engage Hispanic readers with lively and accurate translations that prompt them to take notice and take action,” said Rivera, Hook Translations owner-manager. Hook also creates original content in Spanish for print publications, websites, e-newsletters and social media sites.
“The content that we produce uses marketing analysis and journalistic skills to produce compelling messages that resonate with Hispanics,” she said.
The agency’s recent work includes translating brochures into Spanish for the $tand by Me, a financial empowerment partnership led by the state of Delaware and United Way of Delaware, and translating a variety of patient care documents into Spanish for Beebe Healthcare.
“It’s important for us that patients with limited English proficiency have equal access to healthcare services,” said Alina Ferrer, Beebe’s medical healthcare interpreter. “We’re very pleased with the quality of the translations and the quick turnaround time.”
Hook has also translated documents into Vietnamese for Beebe’s Tunnell Cancer Center. All of Hook’s translators have university degrees in translation science and at least five years of industry experience.
“We launched this agency because the quality of the translations we were seeing was very poor, with many companies asking unqualified employees to help with translations,” said Virginia Ariztoy, Hook’s head translator and editor. “Raising the bar was and has been at the core of what we do.”
“For businesses aiming to increase their market share, the Hispanic population represents a rapidly growing demographic that has become too big to ignore,” Rivera said. “Creating brochures, advertisements and social media campaigns in Spanish is a proven way for businesses to broaden their customer base.”
Hook Translations serves businesses throughout Delaware that desire to improve communications with current and prospective Spanish-speaking clients and employees, especially nonprofits, healthcare facilities and companies that have significant Hispanic employee and customer bases. The company also coordinates translations in other languages, including Haitian Creole, Burmese, Arabic and Korean.
