Beebe brings HealthyBack to Sussex

If the healthcare team at Beebe has anything to do with it, patients managing back and neck pain may have found their fix.
Beebe Healthcare recently opened the doors to HealthyBack, a comprehensive spinal rehabilitation program offered at the College Park Medical Pavilion in Georgetown to promote active solutions for patients who suffer from chronic neck and back pain.
Treatment in the HealthyBack program consists of 10 weeks of intensive therapy and an additional nine months of wellness coaching with a team of physicians, physical therapists and health and wellness coaches who seek to resolve back pain without drugs.
"From my perspective as a physician, this is the coming together of a lot of people and resources to impact favorably on the quality of life for people in Sussex County," said spine specialist and medical director at Beebe HealthyBack, Dr. Ronald J. Wisneski. “Our goals are to provide a participatory and active option for patients rather than utilizing passive treatments in the form of drugs and injections.”
Beebe HealthyBack, launched in April, is an overall wellness program, the first of its kind in Delaware. It was designed by Pure HealthyBack, a direct provider of treatment services for people with high-risk chronic neck and back pain.
Beebe HealthyBack’s first patient, Earl Croswell, is a Millsboro resident who has been coping with chronic pain after two back surgeries, a hip replacement and two knee replacements in the last four years.
“I wanted to try something where I would get off taking medicine. I was looking for a fix instead of a cover-up,” he said. “I didn’t want any more procedures.”
In the weeks since he began HealthyBack, Croswell said the intensive exercise therapy has already started to resolve his chronic pain.
“It is the greatest thing that ever happened to me because I come in and work out for two hours, and I leave without pain,” Croswell said. “It just works. I couldn’t be happier.”
When the initial 10-week intensive treatment with a physical therapy team ends, Croswell will go on to the nine-month wellness program, meeting with health and wellness coaches to work on a plan specifically designed for him.
Beebe HealthyBack health coach Rita Williams said her services complement services offered by other professionals to restore and reinforce overall wellness.
“We are really an integrated team here that’s noninvasive for the patients,” Williams said. “Our goal is to help people get their lives back.”
