Connecting Pen to Purpose Writer's Conference set Oct. 18

Vine & Vessels Christian Writers Fellowship will host its Sixth Annual Connecting Pen to Purpose Writer’s Conference Saturday, Oct. 18 at Crossroad Community Church, near Georgetown. The conference is scheduled from 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Pastor Rick Betts is the host pastor.

Maribeth Fischer, executive director of the Rehoboth Beach Writers' Guild, will be the keynote speaker. Fischer is the author of several novels including "The Language of Goodbye," awarded Virginia Commonwealth University’s First Novel Award for 2002.

She received her BA in English at Iowa State University in 1988, then pursued an MFA in fiction at Virginia Commonwealth University. Fischer teaches year-round classes in fiction, creative nonfiction and memoir writing.

Participants may choose from a variety of seven dynamic workshops designed to advance writing skills and publication. Registration packet includes two workshops, a continental breakfast and lunch.

Conference rates are as follows: youth age 12-18, $20; adults age 19-61, $40; seniors 62 and older, $25.
