Film society and CHEF present Wagner opera Dec. 13
The Rehoboth Beach Film Society and the Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation will present The Metropolitan Opera’s live broadcast of Wagner’s “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” at noon, Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Cape Henlopen High School Theater.
Music director James Levine returns to one of his signature Wagner works about a group of Renaissance master singers whose song contest unites a city. Back at the Met for the first time in eight years, this epic comedy headlines Michael Volle in the central role of Hans Sachs, and Johan Botha as the indomitable Walther. The elegant Annette Dasch as Eva rounds out the international cast in this heartwarming celebration of the power of music and art. The box office opens at 11:30 a.m. and there will be two intermissions, the first at 1:25 p.m. and the second at 3:10 p.m.
Lunch from Hobos Restaurant - $10 for a complete meal - will be available in the atrium of the high school starting at 11 a.m. and continuing through the first intermission.
In addition to the opera performance, the HD series features Met opera stars conducting live interviews with cast and/or various production crew members while showing behind-the-scenes workings. This production is the fifth in The Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD series of 10 dates of live simulcast transmissions. For more information about the entire season, visit www.rehobothfilm.com.
