The original Slam Dunk tournament at Cape ran from 1990 to 2003 and lasted five days. Bobby Jacobs was T.D. - Tasmanian Devil of Tournament Directors. Great games, live entertainment and a hospitality room kept fans fat and happy.
The Bay Ball Classic moved into Cape for three years beginning in 2007 and was also a five-day tournament with the entertainment scaled way back from the original Slam Dunk Tournament. The basketball was great and featured many future NBA players including Kemba Walker, Xavier Henry, Lance Stephenson and Blake Griffin.
But cutting to the quick, the bills weren’t paid and the tournament went away.
