Screening of 'Tell-Tale' set Jan. 14
The Rehoboth Beach Film Society and the Rehoboth Beach Public Library invite film and/or literary enthusiasts to a screening of “Tell-Tale” at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 14, in the upstairs community room at the library. This feature-length film is based on Edgar Allan Poe’s iconic short story, “The Tell-Tale Heart.”
The screening is part of the monthly Read a Movie series in which members read a little-known short story in advance of the screening, then gather to watch the film and share their thoughts about how well - or not so well - the story was expanded to the big screen.
This 2009 thriller stars Josh Lucas as Terry Bernard, a single father raising a daughter with a rare degenerative disease. With health issues of his own, Terry undergoes heart transplant surgery and almost immediately begins having memory flashes of the murdered donor’s final moments. When his new ticker recognizes one of the donors’ killers, Terry follows him and the vengeful heart begins to take control of his mind and body.
His new heart wants revenge and if necessary, will take control to get it. Phillip Martin of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette says, “…a modern updating of Poe’s canonical short story, 'Tell-Tale' is an ingenious step up from the usual genre suspects…Possibly Josh Lucas’s best performance to date.” Bob Ackerman will facilitate the post-film discussion.
The Read a Movie series take place on the second Wednesday of each month from September to May and is free and open to the public. To sign up and receive the stories in advance, email Denise Hoban at outreach@rehobothfilm.com.
On the evening of the screening, attendees can receive 15 percent off Dos Locos’ regular-priced dinner entrees.
