The Brick Hotel memorializes Calvert Richardson

Longtime Wilmington Trust VP
January 18, 2015

Another significant day in the life and history of the circa 1836 Brick Hotel on The Circle in Georgetown was held Jan. 11. That day, surrounded by close friends, Ann Richardson presented The Brick Hotel on The Circle with a beautiful framed photograph of her recently deceased husband, Calvert Richardson.

Prior to The Brick’s restoration in 2008, it was home to Wilmington Trust Bank, where Calvert Richardson spent 40 years as vice president. When owners Lynn and Ed Lester did their restoration of The Brick, they sought Richardson’s permission to name a room after him - the one that served as his office. Thus, Calvert’s Sanctuary came to be, which is The Brick’s largest suite, situated in the front of the building overlooking The Circle.

Over the years, Calvert and his wife, Ann, have been regular patrons of The Brick. Not long after The Brick opened in 2009, they donated a small photo of Calvert that was placed on the fireplace mantel in the guest room. In fall 2014, during one of their many visits, Calvert popped in to the office and said he wanted The Brick to have a better and bigger picture; however, this didn’t happen prior to Calvert’s passing.

“When I learned that Ann was moving forward with Calvert’s wish for a larger photograph, I was simply thrilled, as Calvert was certainly a legend in his own time. This framed portrait of him will help me keep this little piece of The Brick’s history alive! I am just so honored that the family is allowing me to memorialize him in this way,” said owner Lynn Lester.
