Cadbury Senior Lifestyles has long been a supporter of the American Heart Association. Cadbury volunteers have walked to help raise funds, associates have donated to wear jeans to work in support of AHA, and one year a Go Red event was held at the Lewes campus. That Go Red event affected Cadbury far more than anyone ever imagined.
Carol Cascone, marketing coordinator at Cadbury Senior Lifestyles Lewes, survived a major heart attack last year. Cascone, a young, active and health-conscious woman, is the last person anyone might think would fall victim to heart disease. The community was shocked to learn she had suffered a heart attack.
Cascone is now healthy again, and part of the reason for her survival is that Go Red event held at Cadbury. During the program, she learned the signs of a heart attack for women, and she shared that information with her husband Sal. This knowledge helped him identify her symptoms right away. Because he quickly recognized what was happening and got her to the hospital immediately, Cascone is alive today. To help make others aware, she shared her story as part of the Southern Delaware Go Red for Women luncheon Feb. 6.
