Event to host four state champions from New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland

The Cape Henlopen High School girls’ lacrosse team, the defending Delaware state champions, will host a play day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, March 14, at the school’s field complex in Lewes.

The fifth annual Delmar/Mid-Atlantic Lacrosse Play Day will be the most competitive and most prestigious girls’ high school lacrosse competition in the United States this spring. The event will host four state champions from New Jersey, Delaware and two from Maryland.

The top teams from the metropolitan areas of Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and the Mid-Atlantic region were invited to come to the Delmarva Peninsula to compete with the two best teams from Delmarva. Each team will play three 40-minute running-time games.

Five of the top 10 teams in the country will be represented, including No. 1 McDonogh (Md.), No. 2 Moorestown (N.J.), No. 5 Marriott’s Ridge (Md.), No. 7 Bishop Ireton (Va.), and No. 9 Severn (Md.). All of the eight teams participating in the play day were ranked in the top 100 of more than 2,800 teams in LaxPower’s final 2014 high school rankings. Rounding out the fields are No. 22 Mount Hebron (Md.), No. 52 Queen Anne’s County (Md.), and No. 100 Cape Henlopen.
