Preparing for their keynote presentation as the Survivor Family are the Longos (l-r) Gail, McKenna, Dominic and Mark of Seaford. At his Little League game in May of 2013, Dominic was hit in the chest by an inside pitch. For a brief second he seemed fine, but then he collapsed. His father rushed to him and found no pulse. Dominic was in cardiac arrest. His father, Mark, performed rescue breathing and one of the other parents performed chest compressions. They continued the CPR until a Seaford policeman arrived with an automated external defibrillator and was able to shock his heart back into rhytym. After spending a few days in AI DuPont hospital, Dominic was released and cleared to play sports again. BY STEVEN BILLUPS
The 29th Southern Delaware Heart Ball was held March 28 at Dover Downs with a theme "Takin' Country to Heart." This popular event benefits the American Heart Association. The black-tie encouraged event is where community members, medical professionals and corporate leaders come together to celebrate the lifesaving work of the American Heart Association.
For years, the Heart Ball has helped to advance the lifesaving mission of the American Heart Association, a mission that has impacted the lives of thousands of men, women and children in the southern Delaware area.
Contributions received go far in supporting cardiovascular research, professional and community education, and advocacy efforts.
