Del Tech holds 2015 Commencement

The commencement speaker, Mark T. Brainard, president of Delaware Technical Community College, said "Today is not a graduation, it's a commencement. As you know, the term graduation references a completion of your studies, an end to a education program. Commencement on the other hand, describes a beginning or a start. Delaware Technical Community College Owens Campus in Georgetown held its 47th annual commencement ceremonies May 18. Including this year’s graduates, the college will have awarded degrees, diplomas and certificates to more than 46,277 individuals in its 48-year history. Del Tech is proud to have provided access, opportunity, excellence and hope to the 1,673 2015 graduates.

Here are some interesting facts about this year’s graduating class: 60 percent are female and 33 percent are minorities. Over 97 percent are Delawareans who live in the state and will work for over 600 Delaware businesses. The largest number of 2015 associate degrees will be awarded in nursing, criminal justice and human services.

Three of the first graduates of the Business Administration Transfer associate degree program are transferring into the University of Delaware’s Lerner College of Business as juniors. The first graduates of the Food Safety associate degree program were also recognized.
