Threads opens Lewes showroom

Fabrics and pre-made items now available to public
July 31, 2015

Everyone loves the chance to spruce up their home, whether with upholstering new furniture or finding the perfect window treatments. Threads, a fabrication studio in Lewes owned and operated by Pat Schneider, has been helping clients create the perfect products for their homes for eight years.

“I’ll go into a person’s home, and we’ll start with one window. Before you know it, we’ve moved on to the next room. It’s a process. It’s not like you place an order and never see me again,” said Schneider about how she handles her custom orders. Depending on the type of order, Schneider can work with four other businesses to create a personalized piece, and as a member of the Window Covering Association of America, she holds herself to the highest quality for her orders. “We’re pretty good. We have someone who can paint, someone who can upholster, and someone who can do woodworking if we need it.”

Her orders commonly include soft furnishings for the home, such as draperies, cushions, pillows and types of bedding.  Currently, she is featuring the work of local artist Marcia Esposito, DE Art Lady, who has been painting pillows for Threads and custom paints furniture, in addition to wall art from artist Thea Amato, or Reflectica, to add to homes. Schneider now also has help from her daughter, Alexis, who joined her business after graduating from the New York Fashion Institue of Technology.

“I get all the stuff picked out and set up,” Alexis said. “It’s the one task that OCD [obsessive compulsive disorder] really comes in handy.”

Now, Threads is expanding to not only be a workroom for Schneider and her daughter, but also be a showroom. “With the showroom you can come in and buy the pre-made things, like shower toppers,” said Schneider.

Other items can include headboards, shower curtains, window furnishings and pillows. Clients can also choose from a variety of bright fabrics suited for both indoor and outdoor locations from the showroom for them to sew themselves.

“I just love doing this. I think the nice thing about here is that we really try to make that custom item special,” said Schneider.

Threads is at 16719-D Coastal Highway in Lewes and is open Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Customers can also schedule an appointment to visit by reaching Schneider at 410-746-6549 or pslewes@hotmail.com.
