SoDel Concepts holds first Summer Softball Showdown

SoDel Concepts employees engaged in a friendly rivalry July 20, when corporate chefs Doug Ruley and Ronnie Burkle pitted their teams against each other in a softball showdown at the Rehoboth Little League field.
SoDel Concepts has eight coastal restaurants, Plate Catering and a hospitality management and consulting division that handles food and beverage for clients, including Sports at the Beach.
Doug “Homerun” Ruley’s North team featured employees from Sports at the Beach, Fish On!, Plate Catering, Lupo Italian Kitchen and Papa Grande’s Coastal Taqueria in Rehoboth Beach.
Ronnie “Bases Loaded” Burkle’s South team was made up of employees from Bluecoast Seafood Grill, Matt’s Fish Camp, Papa Grande’s in Fenwick Island and Catch 54.
The North team took the seven-inning game, of which SoDel South team captain Burkle said, “Win, lose or draw, we had a great time, though next year we will start practicing a little earlier.” The rivalry ended with pizza afterward.
“We had a great day at the ball field,” said Scott Kammerer, president and CEO of SoDel Concepts. “The players had fun, and family and friends came to cheer them on.”
The game was a part of a series of company events SoDel sponsors for its employees and their families throughout the year. Next up is family movie day at The Movies at Midway. A morning movie will be followed by lunch in the upstairs banquet room.
“Events like this really go a long way in developing ongoing relationships with our employees outside of work,” said SoDel VP Doug Ruley. “Giving our year-round employees the opportunity to involve their families in our company and showing the young summer employees that we value their hard work and we want them to come back next year enhances our businesses in every way.”
