Pirates of the Delaware Bay sponsor Cape Water Taxi cruise
Pirates of the Delaware Bay, a Red Hat Society Chapter located in Lewes, sponsored a pirate adventure on the Cape Water Taxi in Lewes. On Mondays the Cape Water Taxi presents a History Happening Tour in combination with the Lewes Historical Society.
Pirate Queen Captain BJ Young said, “I read about the History Happening Tour and the Cape Water Taxi and I knew it would be a lot of fun for the pirates and members of the public alike so I booked the adventure and some dressed as either pirate or wench. It was so successful the taxi was sold out two weeks prior to the event. Next year I may have to have two. Marcos Salaverria, Lewes Historical Society director of education, dressed in 18th century regalia and spoke about the shipwrecks and the maritime history of Lewes.
His presentation was informative, educational and entertaining. On the Water Taxi Cruise with the Jolly Roger flying high guests won themed door prizes, and gold pirate coins which were distributed to everyone. Capt. Dave Green and his first mate John Viebrock who also dressed as a pirate for the expedition could not have been more accommodating."
There have been several educational programs so far this year for children (and adults) at the LHS Craft and Antique Shows. From Pirates to Politics, 18th Century Chocolate Making Program, and 18th Century Games can all be requested by organizations and schools by calling the LHS educational director at 302-645-7670.
The Pirates of the Delaware Bay are an official Chapter of the Red Hat Society but there are no regularly scheduled meetings; they meet as the wind blows. Red Hat chapters normally consist of only women 21 years and older. This unique chapter allows husbands to join them in some of their adventures.
