Rosaries to be prayed at site of 60 white crosses Oct. 4, 14

October 1, 2015

Monsignor Desmond Third Degree Council of the Knights of Columbus will erect a field of 60 white crosses on property adjoining St. Jude the Apostle church complex just off Route 1. Each cross will commemorate more than a million innocent babies aborted each year in the United States since the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade ruling. Rosaries will be prayed at the site Sunday, Oct. 4, during the annual Life Chain and at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 14, prior to the Knights' monthly meeting.

Catholics observe October as Respect Life Month and Month of the Rosary. The rosary comes from tender devotion to Jesus and Mary in the 13th century, when 150 prayers by the laity were substituted for the psalms prayed by clergy and religious. While reciting the Lord’s Prayer, the Hail Mary and the Glory Be, believers meditate on mysteries in the life of Jesus and his mother.

In addition to parishioners praying the rosary at home with family and friends, the parish has scheduled opportunities throughout the month for praying the rosary. Individuals and groups will pray this Marian devotion in the chapel and at an outdoor statue of the Virgin Mary.
