Local fisherman to sign books Oct. 3 at Biblion in Lewes
Lewes fisherman Richard Martin will visit Biblion: used books & rare finds at Second and Market streets in Lewes to sign copies of his book, "Free Dive Spear Fishing at the National Harbor of Refuge, Lewes, Delaware," from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 3.
“Free dive (using snorkeling equipment rather than scuba gear) spear fishing may be more common in the warm, blue waters of the Caribbean or the Bahamas, but it’s not the norm here in the Mid-Atlantic," said Biblion proprietor Jen Mason. "With nearly 60 years of spear fishing experience, Richard Martin is a bit of a local fishing legend. We’re delighted to get to carry his book and are grateful that he’s able to celebrate Boast the Coast with us here at Biblion this weekend!”
The book tells how Martin fell in love with the water growing up on the coast of Delmarva, how he picked up the sport of spear fishing while in Florida, and how he spends hours sport fishing in the waters off Cape Henlopen. He also provides some unique details about the harbor’s creation as well as other tidbits from his interesting life.
“Richard’s tales of his adventures are not your stereotypical fish tales,” said Mason. “His style is very direct and engaging, without the pitfalls of exaggeration that can sometimes trip up fishermen. And with his decades of experience here in the waters of the Lewes harbor, he also has a unique and valuable perspective on how the conditions have changed, especially in recent years.”
Biblion is open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., staying open later on weekends whenever possible, at 205 Second St. in Lewes. Copies of this and several other local author offerings are available year-round. For more information, call 302-644-2210, or visit BiblionBooks.com.
