A new art exhibit, 2015 Group Exhibition of the Plein Air Painters of the Mid-Atlantic, will be held at the South Gallery of Delaware Agricultural Museum and Village in Dover. The exhibit runs Saturday, Oct. 31 to Wednesday, Jan. 6. An opening reception will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 31, with free museum admission.
The exhibit represents art produced at plein air painting sessions at 24 sites throughout New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties, and sites in Maryland. Each Wednesday, April through October, artists from throughout Delaware create paintings at scheduled locations. Painting sites include Delaware State Parks, Delaware cultural and historical sites, gardens, various town parks, arboretums, ponds, lakes, historic main streets, preserves, marinas, inland bays and rivers. This exhibit includes paintings produced at Mt. Cuba Center to Indian River Inlet, Burtons Island and west to historic Chestertown, Md.
PAPMA began in 2011 with four Kent County artists with a desire to plein air paint in safe, secure and public locations. The group has gained momentum throughout the Delaware art community with nearly 50 professional artists joining the group from throughout Delaware and Maryland. PAPMA artists trek to special sites bringing to life to their experiences of plein air painting.
The goal is sharing the joy and kinship of painting in the open air in natural light and encouraging other adult artists to participate. Past annual exhibits include Delaware's History Trail Passport Exhibit, Delaware's Byways and Treasures Exhibit and PAPMA group exhibits. Delaware Agricultural Museum and Village is at 866 N. DuPont Highway in Dover. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday.
