Richard J. “Jack” Argo, owned plumbing company
Richard J. “Jack” Argo, 76, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Monday, Nov. 16, 2015, at home of natural causes.
Jack was born in Milford, son of the late Richard D. Argo and Thelma Beebe. He lived the majority of his life in the Milford and Argos Corner areas until moving to Rehoboth Beach 13 years ago.
Jack’s work career included Clifton Canning Company, Gooden’s Floral Shop, which he owned and operated, Martin Limestone and KSI. For the past 20 years, he owned and operated RJ Argo Plumbing and continued to work part-time.
Jack served in the Delaware National Guard from 1957-65. He also enjoyed politics and worked with the State House of Representatives as a lithographer in his younger days. In 1978, he ran for state representative of the 36th District with the campaign slogan, “Let’s Go with Argo.”
His home church was Slaughter Neck U.M. Church. Jack enjoyed game nights with friends, cooking, golf, and traveling, especially to Myrtle Beach. He was very devoted to his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by his wife, Doris (Clifton) Argo; and a son, John Stephen Argo.
He is lovingly survived by his fiancé, Vicky Howard of Rehoboth Beach; two daughters, Kaye Bennett and husband Fred, and Karlyn Shockley and husband Gary; two sons, Christopher Argo and wife Jackie, and Craig Argo, all of Milford; a brother, Glenn B. Argo and wife, Joyce of Athens, Ga.; three grandchildren, Lindsay Luzier and husband Chad, Bobby Braun, and Delaney Argo; three stepgrandchildren, Mark Bennett, Shelby Rosenquist, and Elizabeth Spigone; a great-granddaughter, Adelina Luzier, and was excitedly awaiting the arrival of his second great-grandchild in May; his dog, Chloe, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Nov. 21, at 1 p.m., at Slaughter Neck U.M. Church, 23221 Argos Corner Road, Milford, where friends may call Friday, Nov. 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
After his wife’s passing, Jack took her place on the board of directors for Slaughter Neck Cemetery. For the past 18 years, he had spent many hours attending to the needs and care of the cemetery, as well as maintaining cemetery records. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Slaughter Neck Cemetery, c/o Theodore Jones, 9729 Thirteen Curves Road, Milford, DE 19963.
