Noelle Sabbagh is American Legion national poster contest winner

December 29, 2015

At their December 2015 holiday celebration, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 17 members honored Noelle Sabbagh as the National 2015 Poppy Poster Contest Class II winner. The Poppy Program honors veterans, and Sabbagh already knew about veterans from her own Pop-Pop, a retired military member and lifetime Legion member of Post 17, Lewes, and her grandmother, who is a lifetime Auxiliary member and past department president in Maryland.

Bob Wheeler is a 41-year member and past commander of Post 183, Parkville, Md. He was commander Northern Central District Maryland and was active in Maryland Boys State as a counselor. Wheeler served on an aircraft carrier during the Korean conflict. He is now an Honorary Life member of The American Legion since moving to Lewes where he became a member of Post 17.

Robert Wheeler's wife Catherine Wheeler is an Honorary Life member of Parkville Unit 183. She served many chairs on a unit level and served as Northern Central District president and department president for the State of Maryland. She served as counselor for Maryland Girls State. The Wheelers have been married for 58 years.

Sabbagh submitted her Poppy Poster in May 2015. It was chosen by Unit 17 Auxiliary, then chosen at the Department of Delaware and the Eastern Division levels and then won the National Award for her age group.
