Korean War Veterans donate $45,000 to wounded soldier and family organizations
The Bill Carr Chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association Chapter 1, Sussex County, #013 recently made nine $5,000 donations from the Wounded Warrior Fund to recovering wounded soldiers and their family organizations in the Mid-Atlantic area. The monies were distributed before the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays for the military and their families.
The organizations included The Fisher Houses at Fort Belvoir, Va., and the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center at Bethesda, Md.; USO Warrior Family Centers at Fort Belvoir and Bethesda; Soldier and Family Assistance Centers at Fort Belvoir, Fort Knox, Ky., and the Walter Reed Medical Center at Bethesda; the Walter Reed Society at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center at Bethesda; and the Good Shepherd Fund at Dover Air Force Base, Dover.
Retired Chief John Weidenhof, director of the Wounded Warrior Fund, said the chapter was very fortunate to be the recipient of estate distributions and donations, both large and small, from individuals during the past year. “We incur no expense other than postage so 100 percent of these monies we receive are distributed to our wounded warriors and their families,” he said.
