More than 500 people rallied at the Rusty Rudder for Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation's annual Winter Jam fundraiser, Jan. 29, even after it was moved back a week because of the Jan 22 storm.
Restaurant sponsors generously agreed to cover expenses for the event, which attracted a record 31 business sponsors. Guests danced to the music of Diamond Groove and bid on silent and live auction items.
Popular at the auctions were a bocce party catered by Dogfish Head Brewery; an evening cruise contributed by Delaware Water Taxi, with food from Irish Eyes and wine from Sposato Winery; a dinner party catered by Hobo’s restaurant owner Gretchen Hanson; and a Super Bowl shindig courtesy of Pilot Town Fish Company owner Jay Caputo.
CHEF Development Director Alyssa Titus said, “We are thrilled by the amazing support we received from our sponsors, who refused to let this annual reunion event be canceled."
The annual event raises funds to support programs and teachers at Cape schools.
Since 2006, CHEF has raised more than $150,000 to help the Cape District implement innovative programs for students at all levels.
