Robert T. Jones Sr., owned car dealership
Robert T. “Bob” Jones Sr., 85, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2011.
Mr. Jones was born in Keokuk, Iowa. He graduated from Middletown High School and attended the University of Delaware. He was a member of the Army National Guard in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, he worked at General Motors on Boxwood Road for 11 years. He also worked for local dealers in the area before becoming the owner of the Brandywine Chrysler Plymouth which he owned from 1968 until 1987.
Mr. Jones was a former treasurer and president of the Delaware Auto Dealers Association. He served on various committees with the Philadelphia Chrysler Dealer Association and the Farmers Bank. He was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, was an avid golfer with memberships at Cavaliers, Rehoboth Beach and Lake Wales country clubs. He enjoyed many winters with his wife in Lake Wales, Fla. and summers in Rehoboth Beach.
Mr. Jones will be deeply missed, and survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Cecilia C. Jones; his children: Bob and his wife Marge and Kim and her husband Curt; his four grandchildren: Jessica, Jennifer, Courtney and Bobby; his brother: Jim Jones; and his sister Anne Renzi; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents: Richard B. Jones and Elizabeth C. Thornton Jones and his brother Richard "Dick" Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 30 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 2800 Duncan Rd., Wilmington, where family and friends may visit from 10 to 11 a.m. At the request of the family Mr. Jones will be buried privately at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Jones to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, New Castle, DE 19720, or to the Disabled American Veterans, 183 South Street, Camden, DE 19934.
