Lincoln Trio to return to Coastal Concerts March 19

March 1, 2016

Immediately after The Lincoln Trio completed its November 2011 Coastal Concerts performance, members of the audience began to request a return visit. It was clear that if any group could be considered a Coastal Concerts favorite, it is this stylish ensemble of violin, cello and piano.

Audience demand will be met Saturday, March 19, when the group will be back in Lewes to perform a 7 p.m. concert of intriguing gems for piano trio by Rebecca Clarke, Frank Martin and Joaquin Turína.

The group has a reputation as a first-rate ensemble and Chicago's most celebrated chamber group. The players draw eclectic audiences of sophisticated music lovers, young admirers of contemporary programs and students discovering chamber music for the first time.

Their performing experience, both as an ensemble and as individuals, spans the globe. Internationally, the trio has performed in Europe, South America, the Far East and in music festivals and concert series across the United States. Each member is an artist of international renown: violinist Desirée Ruhstrat has appeared throughout the U.S. and Europe, at the White House, and on live radio with the Berlin Radio Orchestra; cellist David Cunliffe with the BBC and Royal Scottish orchestras, and as a member of the Balanescu Quartet; pianist Marta Aznavoorian with the Chicago Symphony and at the Kennedy Center and the Sydney Opera House.

The Lincoln Trio was nominated for a 2014 Grammy Award for their role in the Naxos recording of James Whitbourn’s "Annelies," based on "The Diary of Anne Frank." The piece was the featured concluding event of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum's 20th Anniversary Tour at the Harris Theatre in Chicago. In October 2014 the trio released their CD on the Cedille Label, which includes the entire works of Joaquin Turína for piano and strings.

Staunch proponents of music education, the Lincoln Trio has had residencies at the Music Institute of Chicago, San Francisco State University, University of Wisconsin Madison and SUNY Fredonia.

The concert will take place at Bethel United Methodist Church hall at the corner of Fourth and Market streets in Lewes. Tickets are $30.
