Visiting Angels has opened its newest franchise here in Sussex County. Owned and operated by Annalise and David Forman, they provide non-medical living assistance to help older or disabled adults remain independent in their own homes.

Director Annalise Forman said, “Working families today have less time to spend caring for their aging parents, and the costs of nursing homes and assisted living facilities has created a real crisis in America.”

Visiting Angels solves this problem by providing assistance in the home of the client or family. Compassionate caregivers help with light housekeeping, personal hygiene, meal preparation, shopping, errands and appointments.

Forman, who has her masters degree in christian counseling, said, “Too often we see sons and daughters become full-time caregivers to a parent. This creates a completely different relationship between loved ones, that’s often not very healthy for either person. We offer a guilt-and-worry-free alternative that helps restore the relationship to that of a loving child and parent.”

“The vast majority of Sussex County’s large population of retirees envisioned themselves enjoying their golden years in the comfort of their own homes,” said Forman. “Often just a few hours a day can mean the difference between staying in the home, or having to move to an assisted living facility. For the son or daughter, those hours provide relief from stress and allow for much needed rest. In many cases it can mean being able to return to work,” she added.

Visiting Angels are available by the hour, day, overnight and live-in. Nationwide, there are more than 400 Visiting Angel franchises, providing support and ensuring that every location meets the highest standards of care. Each caregiver undergoes extensive background checks, health screenings, and training.

Visiting Angels of Sussex is located at 28350 Lewes-Georgetown Highway near Milton. They can be contacted at 302-329-9475, and visitingangels.com/sussexde

Forman added, “We understand the stress involved in caring for a loved one, and we know it’s difficult to make that first call for help. That’s why all calls are answered within 15 minutes, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
