Delaware State Fair Headlines This Week’s Events Calendar; Other Notable Happenings in Milton and Ocean City

July 17, 2019

We don’t stray outside of the coastal region often with our “Weekender Blog,” only for important events we think you’d like to know more about and possibly attend during the summer months.

But let’s face it, most of us want to stay near the beaches between Memorial Day and Labor Day, right? Trust us, we get it, and we’re right there with you.

But this weekend marks the 100th anniversary of the Delaware State Fair just a short drive north in Harrington, and we want to tell you all about what’s happening during the 10 day run of this year’s event.

There’s plenty of time to get to the fair this year and a plethora of things to see. So pick a day, pack up the car and be a part of the 2019 Delaware State Fair.

Okay, let’s get right to it! Here are the Oldfather Group’s top choices for fun and family friendly events for the weekend of July 19-21 at and near Delaware and Maryland’s coastal region.

We begin, as promised, at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington:

Delaware State Fair (July 18-27). A main event every summer, this year’s Delaware State Fair kicks off on Thursday, July 18, and runs 10 days through Saturday, July 27.

You’ll have all of the favorites that you enjoy every year at the state fairgrounds in Harrington, including carnival rides, agriculture displays and shows, livestock competitions, the ever-popular “fair food” and everything else that’s become synonymous with the state fair over the last 100 years.

Also back this year are a number of great concerts and events at the bandstand. Some of the highlights include Sugarland on July 18, Reba McEntire on July 20, “America’s Got Talent” winner Darci Lynne on July 24 and Gladys Knight on July 27.

Milton Peach Festival (July 19). Join the good folks of the Milton Farmers’ Market at the Dogfish Head Craft Brewery site this Friday, July 19, from 3 to 6 p.m., for this year’s peach festival.

More than 20 vendors will be on-site preparing peach infused offerings ranging from peach salsa to pickled peaches, iced peach cupcakes, peach pies and much more.

And don’t forget to grab a class of Dogfish Head’s Festina Peche beer while you’re there!

Ocean Games (July 20). The 2019 “Ocean Games” are planned for this Saturday, July 20, near Caroline Street in fabulous Ocean City, Maryland.

Held in cooperation with the Ocean City Beach Patrol, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Town of Ocean City, there are seven separate events that will be a part of this year’s competition.

These include a nine mile ocean swim, an ultimate frisbee competition and several others. Portions of the money raised on Saturday will be donated to the Johns Hopkins Brain and Stroke Rehabilitation Program.
