SOBER LIVING FOR MOM’S WITH SHARED CUSTODY

May 1, 2025

Finding a safe space to spend a weekend with children is a challenge to single parents in recovery who want or need to be in transitional housing. Space is scarce at the few local “Mommy and Me” houses throughout Sussex county, and some women’s homes have strict overnight visitation rules.  Christian Grace now offers single parents in recovery the opportunity to spend more time with their children at it’s fourth Georgetown location on Gravel Hill Rd., just off Rt. 9.

David Forman, President of Christian Grace sober living says moms in early recovery seeking a peer-supported sober living home may be forced to choose situations that limit their time with her kids.

“We couldn’t ignore so many calls from moms desperate to find an available room where children are permiitted,” Forman said. “Our rules already allow overnights for residents’ children, so we make the the space kid-friendly on weekends, and it’s been working out great!”

Forman says, the private house is just a few minutes from town, with a bus-stop on the corner; and residents with cars often help those without vehicles get to work, resources or appointments.   “Saturday mornings, the house gets a little bit louder and a whole lot more joyful,” he said.

Christian Grace provides safe affordable housing at four beautifully refurbished homes for people active in their recovery from drugs and alcohol; or returning to the community after incarceration for an alcohol or drug related issue. A fifth and final Georgetown location is scheduled to open on West Market street by May 10, 2025.

Christian Grace Supportive Homes have as their main goal, relapse and recidivism prevention.  Their properties provide a safe space to transition to a life of individual freedom and choice in clean and sober living environments governed by common sense rules.

ADDICTION AND TRANSITIONAL HOUSING

For people returning from treatment or incarceration, transitional housing is often a crucial first step in recovery.  Peer support in a safe, clean-living environment increases the odds of successful integration into the community and allows time and space for healing relationships with loved ones.

However, when arriving alone after a long period of extremely structured days at a facilty, acclimating to the real-world can quickly become daunting and overwhelming, and the first two weeks at a sober living house are a critical period, where avoiding relapse may depend on the availability of important resources which are all within walking distance or a few short bus miles from Christian Grace properties.

If you or a loved one will be exiting a treatment program, or substance-related incarceration and are looking for a supportive, safe and affordable living environment, visit Christian-Grace.com for information and entry application.

Those simply seeking safe affordable housing while living drug and alcohol free are also welcome!
