Volunteer as an Individual

On a Build Site

We build, rehab, and repair homes year round, and we need your help! Our build sites are open Tuesday through Saturday, 8:45 am to 3:00 pm. Volunteers can sign up for one or more open build dates on our website construction calendar, but you must register as a volunteer and schedule you build day at least 48 hours in advance.

Formal construction experience is not required, just a desire to help and the ability to cheerfully take direction. Our build sites are led by professional site supervisors and AmeriCorps service members who train and lead volunteers in the day to day tasks. Construction volunteers must be 16 years of age or older; those under 18 need a paper registration/waiver release form completed by a parent or legal guardian.

If you are a skilled volunteer with a background in construction, please contact our Volunteer Services Manager at courtney@sussexcountyhabitat.org or (302) 855-1153, ext. 217 before completing your online volunteer registration.

Volunteers wanting to complete required community service hours must be pre-authorized to serve on the construction site.  Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@sussexcountyhabitat.org or (302) 855-1153, ext. 216.

In the ReStore

Sussex County Habitat ReStore is a discount home improvement store that sells new and gently used furniture, appliances, home goods, and building materials at a fraction of the retail price. Proceeds

from ReStore sales are used to build and maintain affordable homes and revitalize neighborhoods in our community.

The Lewes ReStore is open Monday through Saturday, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Volunteers are needed at the ReStore daily and the hours are flexible. Typical volunteer tasks include:

• Greet customers and assist with purchases.• Receive, sort, price, and organize merchandise onto the sales floor.
• Clean and prepare donated items for sale.• Load/unload large items from donation trucks; move to/from sales floor and customer vehicles.• Work in the office to coordinate donations, file and organize, and recruit and support volunteers.
If you are interested volunteering, please contact Courtney Tull at 302.855.1153 x 217 or courtney@sussexcountyhabitat.org.
