‘The Forgiven’ opens at Cinema Art Theater July 22
The Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “The Forgiven,” starting Friday, July 22. This searing drama takes place over a weekend in the High Atlas mountain range of Morocco and explores the reverberations of a tragic accident.
David (Ralph Fiennes) and Jo (Jessica Chastain) are a couple on the edge of divorce who are taking a vacation as a last-ditch effort to save their marriage. However, their already-tense time together takes a turn for the worse when they accidentally hit and kill a young boy while driving to a party. As the two split off to reckon with their actions, they find themselves coming to terms with their respective vices – David with his uncaring and vicious bigotry, and Jo with her unbearable compliance and repression. In these introspections, those around them will be left picking up the pieces.
Admission is $9 for members and $11.50 for nonmembers.
With screenings opening Monday, July 25, the theater will present National Theatre Live’s “Prima Facie,” an award-winning play by Suzie Miller.
Jodie Comer plays Tessa, a brilliant young barrister. She has fought her way up from working-class origins to the top of her game, defending, cross-examining and winning. An unexpected event forces her to confront the lines where the patriarchal power of the law, burden of proof and morals diverge.
National Theatre Live admission is $18 for members, $20 for nonmembers, and $15 for students with ID and youth under 15.
Patrons are encouraged to purchase advance tickets online at rehobothfilm.com. If seats are available, admission can be purchased at the theater box office beginning 30 minutes prior to each screening.
