‘Baking Science’ cookbook author to chat online May 12
The Lewes Public Library’s Cooks & Books program will welcome Dikla Levy Frances for a live, online conversation about her new cookbook, “Baking Science: Foolproof Formulas to Create the Best Cakes, Pies, Cookies, Breads and More” at 5 p.m., Thursday, May 12, via Zoom.
“Baking Science” helps bakers learn how to get the best results – the scientific way. Levy Frances teaches the chemistry behind successfully baking everything from cakes to cookies to breads, with approachable explanations and simple formulas.
Readers explore topics such as the molecular breakdown of basic ingredients and how they react with each other, as well as how mixing methods like beating vs. whisking vs. stirring affect the final product. These scientific concepts come to life through a series of 45 recipes, empowering readers to bake with confidence and troubleshoot solutions in their own recipes.
Levy Frances will be joined in conversation by Denise Clemons, Cape Gazette food columnist and author of “A Culinary History of Southern Delaware.” The event is co-sponsored by Edible Delmarva and Browseabout Books.
“Although many of us consider creating delicious dishes as an art, blogger and author Dikla Levy Frances will share her experiences as a scientist in the kitchen as we discuss her new book, ‘Baking Science,’” said Clemons. “Join us to learn helpful hints and tips for baking success.”
Levy Frances is the creator of One Sarcastic Baker, a blog dedicated to sharing recipes and teaching foolproof baking tips to readers.
