Aaliyah S. Reese, daughter of Edward Jr. and Claudia Reese of Lewes, is a role model for all youth, and deserves a lot of praise for her unique accomplishments. Insightful, open-minded, determined, and compassionate are qualities that best describe Aaliyah.
She is a rising senior at Cape Henlopen High School and a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Rehoboth. Aaliyah is an outstanding student who has worked hard throughout her life and continues to work hard to achieve important educational goals. One of her greatest remaining goals is to be accepted for selection into a college or university of her choice. When she was very young many knew then that she was going to shine regardless of the challenges she may face in her school, community, peers and other settings.
Aaliyah was accepted into the People to People Student Ambassador class of 2012. “As you know, becoming a Student Ambassador is an exciting, life-changing experience. This program reaches out to people of other backgrounds and cultures,” she said.
Aaliyah has constantly demonstrated a thirst for knowledge and willingness to travel abroad. Her personality is brilliant because she exercises two simple actions: She asks questions and listens attentively. Aaliyah, like John Wesley said, “Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways you can, At all the times you can, To all the people you can, For as long as you can.”
Whether it’s the social activism of the Harlem Renaissance or business acumen, she seeks to obtain an in-depth understanding of her surroundings and beyond. Many have witnessed first-hand the positive and powerful influence that Aaliyah has on her peers in both formal and informal venues. She is an honor roll student at Cape Henlopen High School and has pursued excellence, not only in terms of her grades, but also by becoming a well-rounded student.
This has been demonstrated by her participation in additional extra-curricular activities such as track and field, co-chair of the Peninsula-Delaware Conference on Youth Ministries, AVID Scholar, National Honor Society, and Youth Leader at Faith United Methodist Church, Superintendent Service Award, 2012 Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Domestic Violence Essay Contest Participant. Missions Trips to Pennsylvania and Nicaragua. In addition, she has participated in numerous activities and fundraisers, especially those at her church.
Aaliyah, along with several other students, went on a People to People trip to China in July. She visited several cities and communities in China, including Shanghai, Hangzhou, Wuzhen, Suzhou, Guilin, Hongyan Village, Xi’an, and Beijing. Her future goal is to pursue a career as an elementary education teacher and later become the secretary of education. With all that has happened in Aaliyah's lifetime, she gives God the credit. Aaliyah's was able to raise $7,000 with the help of so many faithful, dedicated, supportive family and friends, to pay for the trip.
