Donations are pouring in to help a Milton family following a tragic accidental shooting incident in Pennsylvania.

Darin McMahon, 46, was seriously injured during a training session Sept. 15 at Threat Assessment and Tactical Solutions in Stroudsburg, Pa. According to police, he was participating in an exercise hosted by Rockwell Tactical Group LLC that uses fake guns with paint; however, for an unknown reason, a real gun was used, and McMahon was shot in the neck with a bullet.

He was taken to a local high school and then flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital. “This is an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the community,” Stroud Area Regional Police Department said in a press release. Police believe the shooting was accidental, but it is still under investigation.

McMahon co-founded Activ Pest Solutions with his brother Sean McMahon in 2000. In July, it was announced the business would be part of the Black Hog Village commercial development off New Road near the Lewes-Georgetown rail trail.

According to the business’ Facebook page, doctors are saying McMahon will be paralyzed from the neck down. He remains at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pa.

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been established to help with McMahon’s medical expenses. McMahon’s wife Tiffany will travel back and forth while he remains in Pennsylvania. The fundraiser also aims to cover her travel expenses and provide the family with money while Tiffany takes leave from work. The couple has two children under the age of 7.

As of Sept. 25, the GoFundMe has raised nearly $75,000. www.gofundme.com/f/darin-mcmahon.

In a video statement on Rockwell Tactical Group’s website, founder and head instructor Jared Ross said his only concern is with McMahon, his family, and the other people involved in the incident.

“Clearly our standing and written protocols were not followed,” he said. “What is the future of RTG? Right now, I really don’t care. My only concern is for the student, for his family and for all those who were involved. Since I wasn’t there, I really don’t know what happened, but we’re working with authorities to make that determination.”

The group will not add any additional classes, but will honor previously scheduled exercises. Ross will personally lead each class, a statement on the website says.
