Always Best Care Senior Services contributes to Delaware Veterans Stand Down
Will Childers of Always Best Care Senior Services in Milton presented a $1,000 check to Liz Byers-Jiron, in support of the upcoming 10th Annual Delaware Veterans Stand Down in Dover slated for Sept. 21.
The presentation took place at an organizational meeting in June.
Stand downs are for veterans who need assistance, some of whom are homeless. It is one of the annual projects carried out by the Veterans Awareness Center Foundation in Greenwood, a 501c3 created by Byers-Jiron, her husband Bill and their daughter Mindy. Their team of about 35 volunteers works for six months before each event.
Contributors and volunteers from businesses, government, nonprofit organizations and others from across the state come together each year to help veterans in need of a friendly hand up.
"We are truly grateful for this generous contribution from Mr. Childers on behalf of ABC Senior Services," said Byers-Jiron. "He certainly understands the needs of the underserved, including our veterans."
Last year more than 100 presenters provided basic services, information on benefits, clothing, housing, toiletry kits, a hot meal, barbers, dentists, a mobile medical van, flu shots, behavioral health, suicide prevention, legal advice and services from the motor vehicle department.
The VA also provided information on available services. Go to www.alwaysbestcaredelaware.com. For more information, display posters, or to contribute, offer goods or services or to volunteer, call 302-349-4898, or email lbjnavcret@hotmail.com.
