American Flag Guardians to salute veterans Nov. 10
The American Flag Guardians invite everyone to take part in a Veterans Day tribute from 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 10, at The Wheelhouse in Lewes.
Honoring area veterans, their spouses, families and friends, the event is free and open to the public. There will be complimentary hors d'oeuvres, cash bar, a citizenship awards ceremony and silent auction. All proceeds will directly support Operation Flags for Vets, the group’s ongoing campaign to benefit Lewes veterans.
American Flag Guardians is a Lewes-based group whose primary mission is to promote pride in America through stewardship of the American flag and service to veterans. Dedicated to providing new flags and replacing old or torn flags throughout the community, AFG’s charge is to honor fallen warriors and veterans. To fulfill its mission, AFG will provide replacement flags and flag retirement services – free of charge – to qualifying veterans or their surviving spouses. Currently, AFG is entrusted with guardianship of the six American flags flown throughout the City of Lewes.
Operation Flags for Vets aims to provide a high-quality, 100 percent American-made kit, or the flag only, to mount on a veteran’s home. For a form to nominate a veteran to receive a flag or flag kit, go to www.302patriot.com. Nomination forms will also be available at the Nov. 10 event.
Co-founder John Nehrbas said, “Membership to AFG is open to veterans and citizens who remain united by one common goal: to promote flag respect, pride and etiquette within our community in order to honor all veterans, especially those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.”
Headquartered at 1546 Savannah Road in Lewes, American Flag Guardians was incorporated as a Delaware nonprofit in 2018.
