Annual Parkinson’s expo held in Rehoboth Beach

May 14, 2024

The Parkinson’s Education and Support Group of Sussex County presented its annual Parkinson’s Health, Wellness and Education Expo May 4 at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center.

More than 150 attendees took part in the event that featured a diverse array of activities and resources designed to educate, inspire and empower. Experts in the Parkinson’s field offered information from local organizations, medical facilities and drug companies dedicated to supporting the Parkinson’s community. Exhibitor specialities include speech services, physical therapy, nutrition counseling, home care, rehab and caregiver support.

Guest speakers include Dr. Justin P. Martello, a board-certified neurologist specializing in movement disorders and Parkinson’s disease at ChristianaCare Health System; Dr. Joseph M. Savitt, an associate professor of neurology at the University of Maryland; Dr. Carolyn Trasko, an integrative health specialist; and Allie Signorelli, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2002 at age 47. Signorelli draws on her expertise and experience as a prominent figure in Parkinson's advocacy, leveraging her substantial online presence to raise awareness, funds and support.

These experts discussed new treatments, coping systems for caregivers and patients, and valuable insights into the management of Parkinson’s disease.

"We are thrilled to host the annual Parkinson’s expo and to provide a platform for education, support and community connection," said Amanda Peters, PESGSC board president. "Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by Parkinson's disease, and we invite everyone to join us for a day filled with knowledge, inspiration and community support."
