Another successful Stockings for Soldiers campaign

December 19, 2017

This was another successful year for the Stockings for Soldiers campaign. The first week of December, 9,059 personalized stockings were sent to individual troops around the world. Fifty-three K9 handlers and their 49 K9 troops, (dogs), were treated with 27 boxes of stockings and K9 goodies; 2,000 fleece blankets and 500 knit hats were sent to several VA medical centers. In all, 1,350 boxes weighing a total of 46,274 pounds were sent at a cost of $30,500.

Our local community made major contributions to this effort, both in material goods as well as financial contributions. We again want to thank the Cape Gazette for helping to get our message out and the many individuals who generously contributed this year.

In addition, the following groups adopted the program: The Henlopen Landing Community Association, VIA of Rehoboth Beach, First Town Club of Lewes, The Glade Quilting Group, GFWC Zwannendael Women's Club, the residents of Oakwood Village at Lewes and Sussex County RSVP. Also, the congregations of St. Jude the Apostle Church of Lewes, The Episcopal Church of Saint John the Baptist of Milton and the Felton-Viola United Methodist Church of Felton again played major roles with their generous contributions.

This year marked the 14th anniversary of Stockings for Soldiers, and we are honored to have played a role in coordinating contributions in our area. Thank you all for your generous support.
