Applications being accepted for Darby Mowll, RN Nursing Scholarship
Any Cape Henlopen High School senior who wants to enter a college or school of nursing education program and needs financial assistance still has time to apply for the Darby Mowll, RN Nursing Scholarship. This program provides an award each year to two qualified applicants who meet the eligibility criteria.
Scholarships are $1,000 and are made in memory of Darby Mowll, RN (1954-2018), who provided competent and compassionate nursing care to thousands of patients over a 30-year career in newborn and maternal care, medical and surgical care, and home care. As a young aspiring nurse, Mowll could not have completed her nursing education if it were not for financial assistance. Mowll would want to help those aspiring to become nurses overcome the financial barriers they face.
Due to a growing demand for healthcare services, increased population and lifespan trends, nurses, who are often the frontline caregivers, are in great demand. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ employment projections, nursing is one of the top occupations for job growth over the next 10 years. BLS estimates a growth from approximately 3 million nurse positions to 3.3 million by 2029. BLS also projects there will be 175,900 nurse job openings each year.
An application for the Darby Mowll, RN Scholarship is available at the Cape Henlopen High School Guidance Office; the deadline is Saturday, April 30.
