Art league to offer oil painting workshop Sept. 8-10

Michele Byrne to teach palette knife and brush skills

Guest artist Michele Byrne will teach a three-day workshop for intermediate oil painters titled Palette Knife and Bold Brush Impressionism in Oil Paint at the Rehoboth Art League from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday to Monday, Sept. 8 to 10.

Byrne will show participants how to keep their oil painting loose with a palette knife and bold brush. She will go over basic composition theory, value studies, and how to tell a story in paint. She will also discuss how to add figures to paintings in a natural way to give them life. The cost of the three-day workshop is $375 per person.

Byrne is recognized for her figurative plein air work. She lives and works in Reading, Pa., where she was born. She travels extensively, painting in various locations including Manhattan, Paris, California, Colorado and Key West, Fla. Byrne has won numerous awards for her plein air and studio work including a top prize in the prestigious Salmagundi Club in New York.
