Allison Emmons
Allison Emmons, 46, of Hockessin was the overall winner at the Rusty Rudder 5K in Dewey Beach. She circled the course in a time of 17:58. Asked if she was surprised to place first overall in a race run by 171 people, Allison said, “Not at all. Running is what I do.” Allison was an all-state distance runner for A.I. Du Pont back in her high school days. She won multiple state titles as a high schooler. The running year 2024 was good for Allison, who is a member of the Pike Creek Valley Running Club. She ran 38:44 at the Cooper Norcross Bridge 10K, 58:25 at the Delaware Distance Classic 10-Miler, and 30:29 at the Philadelphia Marathon 8K. Allison has posted several age-group Delaware state records across various distances since turning 40.
Lucca Fazio
Lucca is a humble kid for having such a flair for the dramatic. Still, the rising Fred Thomas seventh-grader showed plenty of emotion when he demolished a hanging curveball to walk it off 5-4 against Mid-Sussex July 14 to clinch the District 3 championship for Lewes major all-stars. It was his third home run of the tournament. Lucca was also on the bump for Lewes in the final, collecting 10 punch outs over five innings while conceding just one run off two hits. Potentially following in his dad Zach's footsteps, who played Division I baseball at Wagner College, Lucca has been playing since he could pick up a bat. Primarily a shortstop, Lucca recently began crafting the art of pitching. He has enjoyed an early return on his investment, finding his velocity is problematic for opposing batters. Lucca plays travel ball for Marucci Prospects On The Rocks while running cross country and playing basketball for Fred Thomas.
Krew Johnson
Krew was a key player in the Milton 8-10 all-stars’ District 3 championship run, driving in runs while putting a stop to them while on the mound. His dominance showed up in the three-inning, 16-0 win over Woodbridge in the second round. Krew secured eight of the nine total outs via the strikeout. He led his team with three RBIs, and his three runs and two hits tied for the team lead. Against Millsboro July 9, Krew scored and drove in a run with a hit and a walk. He was also on the mound for two innings. Krew was once again called on to take the hill July 11 against Lewes and absolutely shined. After striking out nine through 4.2 innings, Krew received a standing ovation as he handed the ball over to Jase DeLacy. In that moment, he was reminded how much he loved baseball. Krew’s mom, Amanda, teaches at Rehoboth Elementary, where Krew is a rising fifth-grader. He plays travel ball for the Bagel Bombers Sussex 11U team and football for Cape Pop Warner.
Nick Walker
The Cape wrestling team attended Roanoke College Team Wrestling Camp July 10-13, when 22 teams competed in two pools. Cape finished 8-4 in dual meets. Nick Walker and Austin Guerrieri were undefeated during the dual meets, which qualified them for the all-star match at the end of camp. Nick finished with a perfect 13-0 record. He had seven pins, five technical falls and one major decision. “Nick was the vocal team leader keeping everyone in line,” said Cape coach Chris Mattioni. “He was always leading by example throughout the camp. He was aggressive and dominated all his opponents. He wrestled at a high level and really looked impressive. It was fun watching him compete at the camp. He stayed in good position and scored with great setups. He is going to have a great senior year.”
