Athletes of the Week July 2

July 2, 2021
Ally Diehl

Another in a squadron of whisper jets who plays multiple sports. Ally, a member of the 2027 Eastern Shore Lacrosse Club team, takes the draw then is gone like a turkey through the corn. She is a middie using controlled speed and is the leading scorer on the team. She had two goals in the championship game during the Beach Blast at Cape last weekend. She also plays basketball and field hockey. Ally takes the draw – puts the ball in play – and her ruining buddy Haley Gamuciello comes up with the loose balls that Ally doesn’t snag out of the air. Ally is a rising seventh-grader at Beacon. She was also on the all-girls’ basketball team that won the Boys’ League Championship at The Factory last winter. She comes through the Shields school system. Ally body boards and surfs. She works regularly with coach Ellis Gaulden on speed and agility.

Haley Gamuciello

Haley snapped like a Fourth of July firecracker last weekend at the Beach Blast lacrosse tournament while playing for the Eastern Shore Lacrosse Club on the 2027 championship team. The Pirates went 5-0 over two days to win the championship. Haley was all over the field, flashing great speed and scoring crucial goals from her midfield position. She had a goal in the championship game. She also plays basketball and field hockey. Haley is a lefty but has no trouble going to her right. She came through Rehoboth Elementary. Haley likes to body board or surf when not playing a sport. She works regularly with coach Ellis Gaulden on speed and agility.

Claire Lopez

Claire Bear is a lacrosse midfielder and rising eighth-grader at Beacon Middle School. She also plays field hockey and basketball. Claire pumped in a couple of hat tricks last weekend playing for the Eastern Shore Lacrosse Club 2025-26 team at the Beach Blast lacrosse tournament, helping the Pirates to a 2-1-1 record over two days of play. She is on the A Honor Roll at Beacon and a recent inductee into the National Junior Honor Society. Claire started playing lacrosse as a scooper for the Atlantic Lacrosse program. Claire has “stretched out” over the last two years, and on the lacrosse field, she can run and finish with either hand. Claire looks forward to playing with her older sister Anna, a goalie, when she starts at Cape in the 2022-23 school year. Claire and Anna will attend lacrosse camp at Boston College the week of July 5 before wrapping up their travel season at DE Turf July 18.

Hannah Zimmerman

Hannah is a lacrosse scoring machine. Last spring as a Milford eighth-grader, she established a school record by scoring 49 goals in the school’s first full varsity season under coach Amanda Frampton. She was also a varsity hockey player for coach Andrea Fleming, and played travel hockey for Oranje. Hannah is an Honor Roll student and a member of the National Junior Honor Society. She took all honors classes at Milford. During the recent Beach Blast lacrosse tournament at Cape Henlopen, she led the Eastern Shore Lacrosse Club 2025-26 team in goals scored and free position shots converted. Hannah is a creator in lacrosse; she scores most of her goals unassisted using speed, agility and great stick work.
