Athletes of the Week Nov. 7

November 7, 2025
Logan Crotty

Hiding in plain sight, Cape cross country’s No. 3 runner Logan Crotty was the centerpiece propelling the Vikings to a pair of championships over a two-week showdown period. Crotty placed seventh overall in Cape’s 34-41 team win over Sussex Academy at the Sussex County Championships Oct. 22. Then at the Henlopen Conference Championships Nov. 1, Logan placed 11th overall in 21:09 to help Cape secure the team title with 73 points. “I ran track last spring, but this is my first season running cross country,” said Logan, an honors student. “I train with the team after school every day, and just love the sport.” Logan, 16, has a twin brother Liam and older siblings Darcy, 18, and Ava, 20. “Logan has been a great addition to our girls' team,” said coach Matt Lindell. “She is a competitor who has improved as the season has progressed, and her season-best performances at the county and conference meets made a major difference in the outcome of both meets in our favor.”

McKenzie Everson

This Cape senior honors student turned up the intensity during the DIAA playoffs for the volleyball team, contributing to the win over Delaware Military Academy with blocks and a strong presence at the net. “Mack had two super impactful matches for us in the state tournament," said Cape coach Tyler Coupe. "She finished the two matches hitting .307, but more importantly were her defensive efforts. She tallied three total blocks; however, more impactful were her block touches. She slowed down countless attacks for our back-court defense, which made our first contact so much more consistent. She was a vocal presence both on and off the court during both matches, and pushed her teammates. She’s been a great athlete and even better human not just this year, but also during her whole tenure with our program." In her spare time, she coaches gymnastics and likes to spend time with her friends.

Thomas Jensen

Thomas is a half-time Lewes Beach resident and a runner of renown. Last week at the Ocean City Running Classic, the 62-year-old won his age group (60-64) in 3:40, which Jensen reports is the worst of his 50 marathons run since he turned age 41. Tom had run 27 sub-three-hour marathons, which he called a labor of love – oftentimes more labor than love. “I have nothing left,” Tom said. “Maybe triathlons or pickleball, which sounds easier.” Tom has worked 21 years in Washington, D.C., as a lobbyist for UPS, and he is now head of government relations for Amrise, the nation's leading construction and building materials manufacturer. And now Tom is a seaside running muppet in search of a pickleball court.

Lillie Short

A senior soccer strider at Radford University, Lillie was recently selected Big South Midfielder of the Year. Lillie was an eighth-grade phenom at Sussex Academy, scoring 38 goals. She then attended Sussex Tech, where she played soccer for Carlos Villa. Lillie’s older siblings Kira and Patrick were Sussex Tech athletes. Kira played field hockey at Liberty, while Patrick was a soccer player at Goldey-Beacom. Lillie currently leads the Radford Highlanders with nine goals and two assists. She was also the leading scorer as a junior with 10 goals and three assists. Following Lillie’s senior season at Sussex Tech, she was selected first-team all-state and Top 11 in Delaware. All Short siblings have suffered and come back from ACL injuries. They each have a story to tell.
