AutoZone coming to Lewes area

August 9, 2017

There’s a new auto parts store coming to town. AutoZone will open in late August or early September on northbound Route 1 across from the new Lewes Transit Center.

It will be one of about 150 new stores the company will open across the country this year, said Ray Pohlman, company spokesman.

AutoZone opened its first store in 1979. Then known as Auto Shack, it has grown into a Fortune 500 company with more than 6,000 locations nationwide.

The new store will join a busy market, with Advanced Auto Parts less than a mile away near Home Depot; Manlove Federated Auto Parts directly next door; and Napa Auto Parts in the Weis shopping center off Savannah Road.
