Looking to address the eating-on-the-run needs and late-night urges of the year-round and visiting population, Beach Stop Convenience Store has opened near Dewey.
“We’re excited to be there,” said owner Louise Manuele of her new business on the Forgotten Mile, just south of the Quality Inn. “This is something that’s needed.”
For now, Beach Stop will be carrying the basics of a convenience store at the beach – milk, eggs, butter, bread, coffee, cakes, cookies, crackers, soda, water, soaps and other toiletries, suntan lotion, clothing and hats. The store will also feature produce from Long Neck’s Muzzi Produce.
In the not too distant future, there will be a walk-up counter where hot sandwiches will be available.
“We just started renovations on the kitchen yesterday,” said Manuele March 14.
Beach Stop also has a wide variety of vape and smoking accessories. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. – 10 p.m., seven days a week. Beginning April 1, hours of operation will expand to 6 a.m. – 2 a.m., seven days a week. The plan is to be open year round.
The space will also house the second home of Hey Hey Taxi, which has been in Sussex County for 12 years and also has a location off Route 9 near Five Points. The taxi service will be available 24 hours a day and plans to provide shuttles to Ocean City.
