I just have to take a moment to express my complete and utter disappointment over the beach tag renewal process, or lack of!
If in four hours, the state runs out of beach tags for Delaware residents, and more importantly those who have had tags for decades, something must change! How is it that a lifelong resident is unable to get a beach tag, yet across the street, I see New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania vehicles with new beach tags?
Why does an out-of-state visitor get to use my states beaches before I do? I’m sure they have bought second homes and come down every weekend, but they are not permanent residents, and thus should have a separate system or way to get tags. But instead, I, the permanent resident, now can only use the beach during the week as long as it is not a holiday and when all the out-of-state folks go back to their “other” homes. Newsflash: Another sign this county is being over developed!
I am so sick and tired of this county constantly doing things that, in essence, destroy the way Sussex life has been for decades. First, the beaches were overcrowded, then tents and pop-up covers were banned, then beach passes got overrun, and now you can’t even obtain a beach pass ... unless you get up at midnight and hit the web as soon as tags go on sale or get in line at the office as pictured in last Friday’s edition.
I don’t know what the answer is, but if this county isn’t careful, their mismanagement of development and lack of planning is going to place this region into a massive overcrowded area.
It’s time to vote for politicians who actually want to preserve our way off life rather than just build, build, build. The bays are overcrowded, the beaches are overcrowded and now beach tags are unavailable, unless, of course, you want to go out Monday through Friday, and no holidays!
