The Beacon Middle School girls’ basketball team moved to 6-0 Jan. 3, with a 42-27 win over Milford.
Kha’Nihya Johnson led the Vikings with 19 points. Margaret May tallied eight, Teagan Baker scored six and Mikaela Gordon added four. Lindsay Hassell and Anna Neustadter each tallied a basket.
The Vikings took an 11-6 lead after the first quarter and went into the halftime break ahead 21-15. They turned up the heat in the third, outscoring the Bucs 14-5. Milford would not give up in the fourth, though, as they outscored Beacon 7-6 to finish on a high note.
“It was definitely an intense game,” said Beacon coach Paul Weisengoff. “Milford is really well coached. We really work on holding onto the ball, and the girls have embraced what we teach them. Moving forward, this game can only help us.”
Beacon will head to Selbyville Middle School Wednesday, Jan. 10.
