Beacon Middle and Cape High yearbooks recognized for excellence

June 5, 2022

The yearbook programs at Cape Henlopen High School and Beacon Middle School both achieved the Jostens 2022 National Yearbook Program of Excellence Award at the Bronze Level.

The National Yearbook Program of Excellence recognizes engaging yearbooks that reflect a broad representation of the student body while helping students develop 21st century skills such as communication, collaboration, and literacy in information and communication technologies.

The award-winning yearbook programs are led by Arthur “AJ” Jones at Beacon Middle School and Carrie Lewis at Cape Henlopen High School.

“It’s been pleasure working with this year’s yearbook team,” said Lewis, Cape yearbook advisor. “The students knew that creating a memorable yearbook would require a lot of hard work and dedication. The entire team embraced that challenge, and created a book that will be remembered as one of the best, and I couldn’t be prouder to have guided them through this process. We have a lot of creative students at Cape, and this yearbook definitely showcases their talents!”

The award was presented to both Beacon’s  and Cape’s yearbook programs for achieving defined criteria in at least one of the following categories: creating an inclusive yearbook, generating school engagement, and successfully managing the yearbook creation process.

“Jostens is proud to recognize those individuals who have created an exceptional yearbook for their school and community,” said Tammy Whitaker, Jostens vice president and COO, yearbook division. “These schools did an exceptional job on multiple levels, despite the challenges presented by this school year. Yearbooks are a critical part of capturing and telling a school’s story, and Jostens is dedicated to supporting yearbook staff members as they do their important work.”
