Beacon student wins Lions Club peace poster contest

December 26, 2020

Earlier this fall, Beacon art students had the opportunity to enter the Annual Lions Club Peace Poster competition, an art contest hosted by Lions clubs around the world.

Students participating use their creativity to design pieces of art that express their visions and views of what peace means to them. It is an international competition with winners advancing from local to state to regional, then to national contests before reaching the international level of competition. This year, sixth-grader Ariel King was selected as the local winner, as well as the winner representing Delaware.

“I’m so proud of Ariel,” said Alexander Louvis, Beacon art teacher. “She is a wonderfully dedicated and talented art student. She created her poster completely independently, demonstrating outstanding ability and originality. I look forward to seeing her evolve as an artist throughout her years here at Beacon Middle School and beyond.”

Rehoboth Beach Lions Club President Tom Foster presented Ariel with a certificate and a $50 check Dec. 9. As state winner, she will receive an additional $50 in the near future.
