Bee Dazzled Cakes opens shop in Millsboro

September 21, 2010

Jennifer Quinn’s dream came true when she met Paula Deen at the Delaware State Fair in July. Quinn, who moved to Millsboro from Virginia, got a kick-start for her cake-making business when the Food Network personality featured Quinn’s cayenne, triple chocolate cake with a salted caramel filling on her food show.

Quinn said she’s a huge fan of Deen’s because both women share the same values and morals. And they both love to cook.

Quinn’s cousin Francis Swiderksi works as appliance deliveryman at Millman’s Appliances in Rehoboth Beach.

Millman’s supplied the appliances used for Deen’s show at the fair. When word got to Millman’s Appliances owner Gary Chorman that Quinn wanted to bake a cake for Deen, she was encouraged to bake the cake and meet Deen herself.

Chorman gave Quinn an extra ticket for Party with Paula, so she could meet the cookimg diva in person.

Quinn said she spent five hours and used 15 ingredients to craft the cayenne-chocolate cake in the shape of a stick of butter.

When Quinn met Deen before the taping of the cooking show in Harrington, Quinn said, “I said, ‘Paula, I know you’ve driven through a whole lot of corn to get to us. How about some butter to go with it?’” said Quinn.

Deen asked Quinn how her budding cake-making business was coming and told Quinn she saw good things for her in the future. “She even put the cake on the stage and called out my name,” said Quinn.

Quinn didn’t view the taping of the Food Network segment, but Deen relayed a message to her through Chorman. Deen told Chorman she was going to take the cake home with her to Savannah, Ga., to celebrate a family bridal shower.

Quinn, a former ward of Virginia, said soon she’s going to start a national cake auction and donate the proceeds from auctioning off the cakes to needy charities, she said.

First, however, she’s been busy getting her cake business off the ground – a feat made much easier after Deen’s kind words, support and endorsement.

Quinn makes wedding cakes and other sweet and savory cakes for special events. Free consultations and tastings are available.
