Beebe Healthcare and The Starboard go purple to fight addiction

Fifth annual event raises funds to fight addiction
September 23, 2025

Guest bartenders and happy customers were the order of the evening Sept. 18, as The Starboard in Dewey Beach teamed with the Beebe Medical Foundation to raise funds at Beebe Goes Purple.

The fifth annual event is a powerful evening that unites the community in support of those impacted by addiction. What began as an initiative to engage young professionals in supporting their local healthcare system has grown each year in attendance, awareness and philanthropic impact.

Addiction knows no boundaries, and this event reminds us that recovery and hope are possible,” said Kay Young, executive director of Beebe Medical Foundation. “I am deeply grateful to the Beebe team members, The Starboard and our generous community for growing this event each year.”

“What a great overall event,” said The Starboard owner Steve “Monty” Montgomery. “The folks at Beebe organizing this make it easy for us to do what we do best, [and] that’s to create a fun environment for all to be together in this strong community to have some laughs together, friendly competition with the fundraising and everyone focused on supporting our local healthcare to the best of their ability. And who doesn’t like to have 15 minutes each behind a bar making drinks for their supporters? I’ve always said you feel 20 years younger back there with folks all wanting you to make them their next drink.”

“We are especially grateful to the many Beebe team members, board members and community leaders who come together to make this event so meaningful,” said Young. “Special thanks to Lee Ann Wilkinson and her team, whose leadership and dedication have been instrumental in its success.”

Throughout the evening, Beebe’s Community Outreach team was present to provide education, support and free Narcan kits.
